As a mentor Robert Brain specialises in supporting decision makers and specialists in corporates and small to medium sized businesses to:

  • Adjust and excel in leadership roles
  • Become familiar with business processes like performance management, disciplinary and incapacity processes, recruitment, succession planning etc.
  • Optimise meeting management, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Develop personal management skills including email management, managing workloads, prioritisation and achieving work life balance,
  • Recognise limited beliefs, see a wider perspective and experience new ways of working

Robert’s results-focused and action-orientated approach is shaped by over 30 years of corporate experience, including more than a decade in senior management at Vodacom.  He’s worked across diverse industries like IT, education, contact centres, telecommunications, oil refining, banking, broadcasting and life insurance.

Qualified in electrical engineering, psychology and coaching, and experienced in technical and management roles, Robert is ideally placed to support and mentor business executives, managers and specialists as they adapt to new roles.

Robert has coached and mentored for JSE top 40 companies and many smaller businesses, and individuals. He is committed to quality and is registered with the International Coaching Federation and Coaching and Mentoring of South Africa.

Some of the companies he has worked with include Old Mutual, Metropolitan Health, Vodacom, The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, Foschini, Momentum, Risk Flow, Potion Design, Thymic Connections, Datacash (Part of the Mastercard group of companies), The Clothing Bank and a variety of NGOs.

As a very visual thinker, Robert uses a metaphor-driven approach.

Working within a narrative and integral framework informed by Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, he excels in restoring clients’ self-belief and showing them that they are capable of more than they believe.

Robert creates a safe, emotionally honest context for meaningful reflection, primarily using questions to facilitate change rather than just providing answers. This approach results in clients that are supported to question, learn and adapt, providing a sustainable result.

Within group settings, Robert uses Participlan as a powerful visual mapping and facilitation tool that allows everyone to participate but no single person to dominate.

Robert’s typical mentoring programme involves 24 hours working alongside clients in the work place, observing and providing feedback and support. This is combined with twelve powerful one on one sessions to provide holistic  support and grow effective management and specialist skills. This programme can be adapted to suit individual requirements.
